EU novel food list

Sources and method

All pages quote Implementing Regulation (EU) 2017/2470, consolidated text of 10 August 2026.

Where the text comes from

Every page quotes the Annex to Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2017/2470 establishing the Union list of novel foods, in the consolidated text of 10 August 2026 published by the Publications Office of the European Union (CELEX 02017R2470-20260810).

The consolidated text is a documentation tool and has no legal effect. Only the acts published in the Official Journal are authentic.

What each page contains

One page per authorised novel food in Table 1 of the Annex. Each page gives the name as listed, the conditions of use by food category with the maximum levels, the additional specific labelling requirements and the other requirements, all copied from the table. Footnotes of the table that a page uses are quoted at its end.

Where the name in Table 2 (specifications) is identical to the name in Table 1 and occurs once in each, the specification of Table 2 is quoted on the page.

What is left out

The column on data protection is not reproduced.

Amendment markers of the consolidated text are removed. Six entries are on the Union list but have no page here, because their table layout could not be read with certainty: Crataegus pinnatifida dried fruit, Galacto-oligosaccharide, and the Table 1b entries for frozen, dried and powder forms of Acheta domesticus, of Locusta migratoria and of yellow mealworm (Tenebrio molitor larva), and for UV-treated powder of whole Tenebrio molitor larvae. For these, read the official text.

A substance that is not in Table 1 has no page, and nothing on this site says anything about it. This site gives no opinion on a product and does not say whether a product is covered by an entry.
